Your Three Brains

The Neuroscience & Spirituality of Wholeness

Cover of Your Three Brains by Shaleen Kendrick

What if our ancient sacred texts are actually mapping your neurobiology?

You are already whole — yet human experience fragments us all.

Our wholeness is not based in either “right belief” nor perfect behavior. It’s experienced through the integration of Mind–Body–Spirit.

Dr. Shaleen Kendrick weaves together neuroscience, embodied spirituality, and ancient wisdom to reveal what sacred stories always knew.

She bridges polyvagal theory, heart-brain research, and interpersonal neurobiology with liberation theology — revealing salvation as process, spirituality as birthright, and sacred stories as invitations to stop splitting ourselves apart.

Your Three Brains offers the science, the stories, and the theological wisdom to finally come back together — integrated and whole.

Who this book is for

For anyone exhausted from fragmenting themselves to survive.

Seekers holding more than one truth

For those carrying multiple truths that don’t fit neatly in one container — and who refuse to throw any of them out to make the rest fit.

Those healing from religious trauma

For anyone who was handed a faith that required them to leave parts of themselves at the door, and who is still working out what remains.

Anyone exhausted from self-fragmenting

For those worn down by workplaces, families, and faith communities that don’t know — or don’t care — that they split people into pieces.

The three brains at the heart of the book.

Three neural centers of intelligence. Not metaphor — measurable science, and the same three the sacred stories have been describing all along.

Your Three Brains walks each one in turn: what it does, what happens when it runs alone, and what becomes possible when all three play together. Integration isn’t a destination you arrive at. It’s a practice you return to.

How the model works

Mind (IQ) · Head-Brain

Your Mind builds the story. It plans, predicts, and makes sense of the world. It turns raw experience into strategy, language, and meaning. Left alone, it overthinks and loops. In concert with the others, it becomes wisdom.

Body (SQ) · Gut-Brain

Your Body reads the room before your Mind can name it. It scans for safety and threat, tracks energy, and signals through instinct and sensation. It knows this feels off long before you have words for why. Left alone, it locks into stress. Integrated, it becomes steady, grounded courage.

Relational Spirit (RQ) · Heart-Brain

Your Spirit reaches toward connection. It attunes to others, senses what a relationship needs, and holds the thread of trust between people. It's how you feel with someone, not just about them. Left alone, it loses itself in others. Integrated, it becomes true presence.

“You’re not broken. You never were. You’re a living system responding to environments that demand you fragment to survive. And you have survived.”
